The Big Lebowski

At the end of the day it will always be a good thing that my ex husband and I are no longer together – but something I will always miss about him is that he kind of always got the my-god-how-insane-is-this-movie side of me. Our book and music tastes differed considerably and he had his moments of wanting to kill me for constantly filling the silence of our little flat with MY noise, but at least the movie part worked most of the time. At least with these kinds of movies.

I watched it again last night rather hesitantly because introducing new people to The Big Lebowski is always a bit of a risk. My last boyfriend pretended to get it, but gave himself away by either laughing in all the wrong places or not laughing at all. My companion last night reacted semi-ok until the very end part which is quite possibly my all time favourite scene from a movie ever: the part where The Dude and Walter are scattering Donny’s ashes. I remember laughing until I cried the first time I saw that scene – and so did my ex (and let’s face it – he NEVER laughs at anything!) Of course by now I’ve forgotten the point I was trying to make but I think it probably goes something like this: if you don’t laugh hard enough you’re not watching it right!
